Word Warriors 2024 - A Year Filled with Stories, Friends and Fun
Afterschool programme for young writers aged 10-12 provides creative opportunities for young writers in Dublin and Tallaght
Word Warriors ran for four sessions of 6-8 weeks at the Fighting Words centre in Dublin and at the Citywise Education Centre in Tallaght. Working with our team of volunteer mentors and staff, these young people have created stories, plays and films that were showcased at the end of each term.

Exploring forms and writing
At the start of the Word Warriors term, the children are encouraged to try different forms of writing, themes and genres.
With the encouragement of the volunteer mentor team and staff, the young authors worked on their stories each week, chatted and enjoyed some well-earned snacks!
Showcasing the Work
At the end of every Word Warriors term, we celebrated our young authors by publishing their work and showcasing with readings and screenings.
Word Warriors gave the children the opportunity for the young people to tell their stories in ways that were meaningful to them, as well as meeting new friends and having fun. As one of the young authors told us, "This is the only place I can feel like I can be myself."

Thanks to our Supporters and Partners
We worked in partnership with the City Connects programme at NEIC in Dublin and Citywise Education in Tallaght to liaise with local schools to recruit the participants in the programme - all children who were keen to have a space to write and create.
The programme was supported by NEIC in Dublin 1 the Amazon Literary Partnership in Tallaght and Dublin 8 - and we are grateful for their generosity!
