Week Four of Fighting Words 2022 Summer Camps

Summer Camp week 4

Fiction for Young Writers Aged 8-10!

Our summer workshop series continues! Thanks to the assistance of Ukrainian Action in Ireland and The Irish Red Cross, our summer camps programme brings young writers from both Ireland and the Ukraine together to hone their creative skills and collaborate with one another to create their very own stories.

Week Four of our program saw our youngest writers we've had yet learn how to create basic fiction! Assisting them was Fighting Words alum and this week's head instructor Sean Farrelly. Sean was able to speak about his time mentoring our young writers and what the experience meant to him:

"It was my pleasure to run Fighting Word's 8-10 Fiction Writing summer camp along with a team of incredible volunteers. Not only did we get a chance to help unlock voices and facilitate creative expression, we also got to witness friendships be being forged between our Irish and Ukrainian participants. It was a joy to read all the stories from the camp and I wouldn't be at all surprised to see their names on bookshelves one day!"

This week was also made special by visits from acclaimed authors Dave Rudden and Jane Mitchell! Both were kind enough to drop by and answer questions about writing as well as read some of their own works to our writers. Fighting Words would like to thank Dave and Jane for taking the time to offer some inspiration and words of encouragement to our camp attendees.

Following the completion of the workshop, all of our brilliant young creatives were given completed copies of their works to share with their families and friends. We are so proud of all the hard work our young artists have done over the past 4 days. We can't wait to see what other stories they'll weave in the hopefully not too distant future!

Stay tuned this week and for the rest of the summer to all our social media platforms to see more from our summer camps!
