Tunnel Vision - A New Song by Teens from the First Fortnight Festival

A new song for a new year!

As part of this year’s First Fortnight Festival a group of young teenagers came together for an online songwriting workshop with Fighting Words.

They discussed the idea ‘we are all individuals with our own strengths and we all live in communities together.’

Using their imaginations and songwriting skills and with the guidance of Fighting Words mentors they created the song Tunnel Vision below.

Verse 1
You’ve been walking for a while
Say you can’t see the other side
Of the tunnel you’ve been walking down for miles
I know your feet are getting tired
And you don't see the point in trying
What if the people who say “it gets better” are lying?

Pre Chorus
I kept going for better days by now I’m guessing its ti-i-ime
i could do it better in hundred ways but i keep going with mi-i-ine

I’m tired and I cant move on I’m too wary
I’m far from going back to being care free
I wanna get out but my mind wont let me

Chorus
There's better days at the end of the tunnel
Let's find the light at the end of the tunnel
Trust me, I know it’s hard
But tomorrow let’s make a start
Together we can fix your tunnel vision

Verse 2
it's been a difficult fight
I nearly lost my mind
I was in a tunnel for so long
Now I think I see the light
I couldn't see my way out
the darkness made me blind
but now the sun is rising
the horizon's in my sight
for so long I was drowning
trying to save myself felt worthless
But now my lungs can breath
I can finally reach the surface

Pre Chorus
I kept going for better days by now I’m guessing its ti-i-ime
i could do it better in hundred ways but i keep going w mi-i-ine

I’m tired and I cant move on I’m too wary
I’m far from going back to being care free
I wanna get out but my mind wont let me

Chorus 2

There's better days at the end of the tunnel
Let's find the light at the end of the tunnel
Trust me, I know it’s hard
But tomorrow let’s make a start
Together we can fix your tunnel vision

Bridge (Chorus 3)
How many miles do we have to travel before we come out of this gloom, out of this gloom?

Feels like the world went quiet, I’m off the tracks, so many missing pieces, will someone help me put them back.

It's all caved in behind me, so I just keep digging on, got no time for introspection, these walls won't hold long. I'm drowning in the darkness, then I'm blinded by the light, life feels like a fever dream, with no end in my sight. Cause I've got tunnel vision, just one path to admission, life's hard in my condition, no room for coalition.

Chorus 3
There's better days at the end of the tunnel
Let's find the light at the end of the tunnel
Trust me, I know it’s hard
But tomorrow let’s make a start
Together we can fix your tunnel vision
