That's When The Sparks Fly Launched at The New Theatre, Dublin!

On Wednesday, 27 April 2022, That's When the Sparks Fly, a collection of memoirs by Irish musicians and a play entitled "The Jimmy," was launched at the New Theatre, Temple Bar, Dublin 2 to a packed house.

That’s When the Sparks Fly is a fascinating collection of memoirs by Irish musicians that recall the pioneering days of the 1960s, 70s and 80s.

Engaging first-hand narratives, from musicians who followed their heart, offer a unique perspective on an era before the establishment of a viable Irish music industry infrastructure. These individual stories capture the exhilaration and excitement, as well as the trials and tribulations, of a time when there was no obvious career path in sight. In mapping uncharted territory, these pioneering musicians unwittingly paved the way for music from Ireland to find a place on the world stage.

In a specially commissioned foreword by author and journalist Eamon Carr, the Horslips member, notes, “I’ve yet to meet a musician, man or woman, who doesn’t have an epic story to tell.”

Written with the support of Fighting Words volunteer mentors and facilitators, the “epic stories” in That’s When the Sparks Fly present an important social and cultural portrait that’s both entertaining and insightful.

That's When the Sparks Fly is available now to purchase from the Fighting Words website for €12.00, including P&P.
