Story Seeds: From Ireland to Italy (and back again!)
Story Seeds: From Ireland to Italy (and back again!)
An Erasmus + funded Arts and Social Inclusion Project with La Grande Fabbrica Della Parole
We are very excited to be participating in our very first Erasmus + funded project ‘Story Seeds: From Ireland to Italy (and back again!)’ in collaboration with our Milan-based sister organisation La Grande Fabbrica Della Parole.
The project is using the tool of creative writing to address issues of social equity and access. Students from 24 classes (twelve in Milan and twelve in Ireland) will contribute to six unique stories. What is really exciting is that the story will pass from the young Irish writers to the young Italian writers and back again like a relay race.
A Focus on Place
The project is particularly focused on place - celebrating the places in the young people’s communities where they like to hang out or are intrigued by.
One story features the Purple Monster of the Naviglio in Milan who must face down his nemesis Paddy the Scientist from Athy. Another story involves a girl from Milan called Penny who has magic drawing capacities. She fancies a chicken fillet roll from Centra in Artane, Dublin, only to be followed by a mummy who is set on destroying her drawings.
As the stories pass back and forth across the water, the young writers learn about each other’s home place.
Outcomes: Educator Resources and a Storybook!
The stories will be published as a storybook and launched online. We will also create a Practice Guide for teachers or creative facilitators interested in exploring creative writing in their work with underserved communities.
Keep an eye out for our webinar later in the year where we will launch this guide.
Semi di Storie: Dall'Irlanda all'Italia (e ritorno!)
