NEW FOR 2021-2022! The 100 Years Project Workshops
As an additional option for the academic year 2021/22, Fighting Words is running a special project linked to the Department of Culture’s Decades of Centenaries initiative.
The booking form allows you to indicate whether you would like to be considered for these special workshops or if you would prefer to apply solely for our regular creative writing workshops.
The 100 Years Project - Primary Schools
We will be encouraging groups to think and write about Ireland in 1921 and 2121, engaging with key ideas and looking at all aspects of life in the Ireland of the past in a social context, not forgetting about the fun and excitement of creating new stories! We will be using a multi media time capsule as a tool to transport the class through time and bring the past to life. The stories will be published on a special section of the Fighting Words website and classes engaged with this project may have the opportunity to link up with other schools in the island of Ireland for related online events. This project is best suited to students from 4th to 6th class.
The 100 Years Project - Secondary Schools
We will be encouraging groups to think and write about Ireland in 1921 and 2121, engaging with key ideas and looking at all aspects of life in the Ireland of the past in a social context. Using time travel as a device to start the conversation, we will engage with the past and the future to create original pieces of writing.
Some classes may have the opportunity to engage with other schools on the island of Ireland for related online events. This project is best suited to groups in 1st, 2nd or 3rd year.

Terms and Conditions
-
Applying for a workshop does not guarantee a booking.
-
Lottery: Due to demand, we allocate places on a lottery basis and may not be able to accommodate all requests. We can generally only facilitate one class per school. Where there is more than one class in a particular stream/year we will try to accommodate this, please indicate on the booking form how many groups are in the year.
-
Locations: In order to maximise the number of schools we can offer places to, the booking form allows you to simultaneously apply for a workshop at both our Dublin or Wicklow centres. If your school is not flexible in terms of which centre you can attend, then please select “Wicklow only” or “Dublin only” as desired. If you have selected “Wicklow only” or “Wicklow preferred” you can additionally indicate if only one of those venues will suit your school. Further information on all the options is on the booking form.
