Young People Come Together in Howth to Collaborate on New Songs!

Fighting Words and Hooks & Reels host young people for a creative songwriting session at the Abbey Tavern

On Saturday 1st February 2025,  Fighting Words and the Hooks & Reels Festival joined up to deliver a day long song writing workshop for teenagers in the northeast Dublin area. 

We invited young people aged 13-17 who had lyrics or poetry, composed music, played an instrument, or just been curious about the tools you need to write a song to come along to the Abbey Tavern for a workshop exploring songwriting.

Filling the Abbey Tavern with New Music!

Over four hours, the workshop aimed to unleash the power of the participants' unique voices while showcasing musical and lyrical talents through voice, harp, accordion and guitar.

The group discussed areas of song craft such as: lyric writing, music making, arrangement, recording and demo practice, performance, and much more. 

Participants were also provided with an opportunity to collaborate with other our team of professional musicians and songwriters.

Songs Of Empowerment!

At the end of the day, the group had composed four new songs on the theme of empowerment.
