Gender and youth literature

In partnership with DCU, Fighting Words was part an exciting EU project with a focus on gender stereotyping in youth literature.

The G-Book 2 project is a collaboration across six countries and examines at gender bias and the portrayal of sexual identity in books available for young readers.  Challenging these norms and stereotypes, the project team have compiled a bibliography of books for young people that are non-discriminatory,and promote equality.

The project also created opportunities for young people themselves to write creatively on the project themes ,with approaches that avoid power imbalances and stereotypes.

Fighting Words engaged with students in Donabate Community College and St Kilian's Community College, Bray. The result is a fantastic collection of short stories that are now part of this Europe-wide initiative.
