The 2025 Fighting Words Supplement Is Here!
The annual supplement in The Irish Times is published on Wednesday, 14 May
We’re thrilled to announce the publication of the 2025 edition of the Fighting Words supplement in The Irish Times, available Wednesday, 14 May!
This special annual edition is a celebration of stories, poems and creative writing by children and young people across the island of Ireland. Inside, you’ll discover an inspiring mix of individual pieces by teenage writers and group stories written by classes of primary school students, all bursting with imagination, heart and originality - in both English agus as Gaeilge.
This year, we are especially proud to again include creative work from young writers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, South Sudan and Somalia, as part of our continued partnership with World Vision Ireland. These engaging contributions bring new voices and perspectives to the pages of this year's edition.
The 2025 supplement is also packed with fun activities and writing prompts to inspire and empower the next generation of storytellers.
Highlights of this year’s edition include:
-
A heartfelt reflection by author Djamel White—a former Fighting Words intern—on how his placement helped shape his writing journey.
-
A celebratory feature from founding patron Glen Patterson marking ten years of Fighting Words Northern Ireland.
-
An introduction to the Fighting Words/Fighting Words Northern Ireland Youth Advisory Panel, giving young people a greater voice in shaping the future of creative writing programming.
Available in Print and Online!
