Near And Far Are All The Same These Days
A collection of stories, poems and illustrations from writers all over the island of Ireland written as part of the Global Writing Lockdown.
At the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020, Fighting Words and Fighting Words NI were invited by Ordskælv, our friends and sister organisation in Denmark, to take part in the Global Writing Lockdown.
We envisioned this project as a way of bringing us all closer together even as we were forced to remain apart. It was an opportunity to reach out and share perspectives amidst the uncertainty and worry of the global pandemic.
The response was fantastic, with submissions from all over the island of Ireland and from all ages. The anthology is a wonderful, heart-warming collection of writings and stands as an emblem of the strength and solidarity to be found in writing and creative expression.
The title of the collection comes from the poem "Don't Touch Your Face" by Bethany Bolger from Bunclody, Co. Wexford.
Three of our writers recorded themselves sharing some of their work! Click the links below to watch and listen to them.
