Secondary School Workshops

Bookings for 2017-2018 have now closed. Please note that due to demand, workshops are allocated by lottery in the spring of each year for the following academic year. Applications for workshops for the 2018-2019 school year will be taken in spring 2018.

Weekday afternoons are devoted to workshops for secondary students during the academic year. These workshops take place either as one-off sessions or as part of longer term projects.

When a class comes to Fighting Words for a workshop, they spend the first part of the time working together, as a group, creating a story initially through role play and improvisation. They then work together , developing characters, setting and plot, adding dialogue and editing as they go.
Each participant then has the opportunity to work on their own, individual pieces of writing, helped and encouraged by Fighting Words volunteer tutors.
Longer term projects involve a week-by-week commitment, and result in the publication of the finished work.
Each workshop lasts two hours, from either 1.30pm to 3.30pm or 2.00 to 4.00 pm (start times and duration are flexible depending on school timetable and distance from Fighting Words).
