Each weekday morning from September to June, 10.00 am to 12.00 noon, a primary school class (1st – 6th class) visits the Fighting Words Centre to write a story.

Working together, with the help of our volunteer tutors, the children write an original story which they see being typed up onto a big projection screen in the Fighting Words centre as it is being written.

The children decide on the characters and plot and go through the story together sentence by sentence, editing as they go.

Weekday afternoons are devoted to workshops for secondary students during the academic year. These workshops take place either as one-off sessions, or as part of longer term projects.  The idea is to introduce creative writing as a skill that anyone can develop and at Fighting Words, students have the opportunity to hone their skills.

When a class comes to Fighting Words for a workshop, they spend the first part of the time working together as a group. We start with role play and dialogue, creating a story with ideas generated by the class. In the second half of the workshop, every student writes individually, either working on the group story or creating something completely new. All students work in small groups with our trained and vetted volunteer tutors.

Write Club is a time and space for 13-18 year olds to come and work on their own pieces of writing.
