Fighting Words in Jordan

Fighting Words volunteers travelled with World Vision Ireland to Azraq camp in Jordan to run story writing workshops with displaced Syrian children aged 6-8 in the Early Childhood Development Centre. Over a week, Fighting Words volunteers facilitated six workshops, reaching over one hundred children in the camp.  The children created a collection of fantastic stories and illustrations. The stories feature lions, butterflies, elephants, rabbits, chickens, and apple trees.

Fighting Words is a free creative writing programme developed by Roddy Doyle and Seán Love in 2009.  The programme operates on the premise that creative writing is an essential part of every child’s education: that giving children a real dedicated chance and space to explore the limitlessness of their imaginations, does great things.  Fighting Words works with students of all ages to develop their creative writing skills, explore their love of writing and let their imaginations run free.
