Young Playwrights 2025 - Triumph at the Abbey Theatre!
"Parting Words" is a brilliant showcase of work by six young authors on the Peacock stage
On Friday, 21st February, the six plays had a rehearsed reading on the Peacock stage in a showcase entitled Parting Words.
The Peacock Theatre was packed with friends, family and Fighting Words mentors for an afternoon of moving and memorable theatre. It was a powerful experience of new writers exploring complex themes.

Over the past six months, the participants worked with our team of writing mentors as well as professional actors and directors from the Abbey. We are so grateful to everyone on the team who helped bring these works to life.

The Young Playwrights 2025 programme was brilliantly coordinated by Louise Melinn and Sean Farrelly, who brought great enthusiasm and empathy to working with this extraordinary group of writers.

A Strong and Enduring Partnership
Now in its 14th year, Fighting Words and the Abbey Theatre collaborated to work with six young playwrights aged between 15-17 to develop their ideas into full-fledged plays for the Young Playwrights Programme. The Young Playwrights Programme has been running in conjunction with Phil Kingston and the team at the Abbey since 2011 and the rehearsed readings are always a highlight of the Fighting Words calendar.
The plays will be published on the Fighting Words website in the coming weeks.
