It's Easier Than Ever For Volunteers To Be Part of Our Long-Term Projects!

Each year, Fighting Words runs additional projects that are exciting initiatives separate to our daily workshops for schools. These projects usually involve a longer-term commitment, ranging from several weeks to several months.

Some of these projects take place in our centres while others are off-site. These include programmes such as The Book Project, Word Warriors and Write Club, to name but a few!

All are an opportunity to work with children and young people on a longer-term basis and be part of their creative development.

New Calendar for Fighting Words Mentors

As always, we can't make these programmes happen without the support and encouragement of all our volunteer mentors. To keep the volunteer mentor updated on longer-term projects we have created the Ongoing Projects Calendar

This calendar will highlight the work that is happening outside of our school workshops.

The Book Project - Tuesdays

To launch this new calendar, I'd love to draw your attention to The Book Project . Every year since 2009, Fighting Words has worked with a different Transition Year group to create an anthology of short stories. This year, we are working with CBS Westland Row, Dublin 2.

Over the course of the academic year, the students will work with Fighting Words mentors to explore their creativity, build confidence in their own unique voice and experience fully what is involved in writing, editing, publishing and marketing a book.

The Book Project will run weekly for from Tuesday, 12 September to Tuesday, 7 May (excluding school holidays) from 1pm to 3pm at the Fighting Words centre in Russell Street, Dublin 1.

We are looking for a team of mentors to encourage the writers through this process!

Word Warriors: Write Club for Authors in 4th & 5th Class - Wednesdays

We are delighted to announce the return of our programme for keen young writers from local schools in Dublin's north inner city in 4th and 5th class (age 10-11) - Word Warriors!

Word Warriors will run weekly for eight weeks from 3pm to 4.15pm starting on Wednesday, 27 September at the Fighting Words centre in Russell Street, Dublin 1

Each week, we will provide a writing prompt or other exercise and let the kids' imaginations loose on creating a new story. There will be opportunities to share ideas and enjoy the writing process.

If you would like to help young writers to develop their ideas over a number of weeks, Word Warriors is for you! There will be a team meeting and further information for mentors in advance of the first session.
