Introducing the Magical Island Project with Tatung University!
The Magical Island Project: 16 Stories from the islands of Taiwan and Ireland!
At Tatung University in Taipei, students in the Picturebook Translation and Editing course are taking on the challenge of translating and illustrating eight stories written by students at Fighting Words workshops.
For the past three years, Fighting Words and the Applied Foreign Languages Department at Tatung University have collaborated under the name “Story Meets Story.”
Story Meets Story…again!
The Magical Island Project will blend the original eight stories created during primary school workshops with translations and illustrations crafted by the students in the Department of Applied Languages Tatung University.
Behind the scenes of this brilliant project is Ping Shi-Kao, a former Fighting Words volunteer illustrator and now lecturer at Tatung University. Ping will design a storybook comprising sixteen tales centred around a magical island!
On Monday, 2 October Operations Manager Sara Bennett met this year’s students over Zoom to introduce them to Fighting Words and to create their own story using our workshop methods.
Previous collaborations have featured stories created as part of our What Lives In Your Imagination Project and the 100 Years Project and workshops have already begun with schools in Dublin.
We are so excited to be a part of this magical collaboration and cannot wait to see what Ping and her talented students create!
