Launch of ‘Fighting Words’ by Coláiste Dhúlaigh TY students, in association with ‘Open Door
On 24th November, students at Coláiste Dhúlaigh, along with Sheila O’Flanagan, launched ‘Fighting Words’.
A book of fifteen short stories written by the group when they were in Transition Year.
They came to Fighting Words each week, and worked on their stories with Fighting Words volunteers. The book is published by New Island in association with the Open Door series of books.
The foreword of the book was written by Roddy Doyle, who describes what they wrote about: They wrote about love and friends. They wrote about mistakes we make and the lessons we learn. They wrote about emigration.
They wrote about vampires and football and fighting. They wrote about what Irish writers have been writing about for hundreds of years. But they wrote in a way that is fresh and exciting.
"Fighting Words," an anthology of 15 short-stories by Fourth Year Students from Coláiste Dhúlaigh, Coolock is published by New Island.
