To secure the longterm future of Fighting Words, we are setting up the Fighting Words Endowment Fund.
The purpose of the Fund will be to raise a substantial capital sum which will be securely invested, permanently on deposit. The interest generated by this investment will help to fund the organisation's ongoing operations and, in time, assist us in opening more centres around Ireland.
The Patrons of the Fighting Words Endowment Fund are: Roddy Doyle, Maeve Binchy, Dave Eggers, Richard Ford, Anne Enright, Nick Hornby, Lorrie Moore, Colum McCann and John Banville.
Bill Shipsey is President of the Fighting Words Endowment Fund.

Tax Efficient Donations - 'Donate More Without Giving More'

Read our frequently asked questions on Tax Relief.
If you donate €250 or more this tax year and pay income tax through the PAYE system, Fighting Words will send you a Revenue form next year. All we ask is that you sign this form and return it to us and we’ll manage everything from there.
| Annual Amount Donated | 20% tax bracket Total amount of your donation with Revenue Tax back | 41% tax bracket Total Amount of your donation with Revenue Tax back |
|---|---|---|
| €250 | €312.50 | €424 |
| €300 | €375 | €508 |
| €300 | €375 | €508 |
| €500 | €625 | €548 |
Firstly you must pay tax exclusively through the PAYE scheme. Secondly you must donate a minimum of €250 during the tax year(January – December).
This can be a once-off donation or a series of donations e.g. a monthly direct debit. If you meet both of these conditions Fighting Words will automatically send you a tax form and by completing and returning this form you are giving Fighting Words permission to reclaim tax on your behalf. This will greatly enhance the value of your original donation at no extra cost to you.
How much more will my donation be worth?
The net value of your donation depends entirely on the rate of tax you pay.
For example, if you pay tax at the standard rate of 20% and you donate €250 during the tax year, then the net value of your donation is €312.50 calculated as follows: €250 x 20/80 = €312.50
Therefore by completing and returning your tax form your donation has generated an extra €62.50 at no extra cost to you
Similarly if you pay tax at the higher rate of 41% and you donate €250 during the tax year, then the net value of your donation is €423.72 calculated as follows: €250 x 41/59 = €423.72
Therefore by completing and returning your tax form your donation has generated an extra €173.72 again at no extra cost to you.
Where can I get a tax form?
Fighting Words will post out a tax form to all applicable supporters in January/February each year.
If for some reason you do not receive a tax form please contact Fighting Words at +353-(0)1-894-4576 and request a tax form.
